The development of Northwest Hills began in 1958 by the Austin Corporation and most of the neighborhood was built out by the early 1980's. Instead of building on a mass scale, the original builders took a unique approach and developed the community piece by piece. As a result, the neighborhood's homes are diverse in both size and architecture. Although there is an abundance of classic, mid-century homes, many of these have been renovated, and newly-constructed multi-family complexes offer a place for everybody in Northwest Hills. The recent addition of many apartment complexes and condos have attracted college students to the neighborhood, furthering the already diverse but laid-back community.
Northwest Hills is just a ten minute trip down MoPac from downtown and minutes away from the hi-tech corridor. The neighborhood is also home to an impressive variety of some of Austin's best local shops, restaurants, and cafes, many of which are within walking and biking distance from most of the neighborhood. The Dell Jewish Community Center offers all Northwest Hills residents state-of-the-art family and fitness centers.
