When it was founded in 1973, Allandale was considered a northwestern suburb of Austin, but after over thirty years of expansion and growth, Allandale is a distinct area in the beloved Central Austin area and is home to over twenty-one thousand residents making it the twenty-eighth largest neighborhood in all of the Austin area. The neighborhood is located only fifteen minutes away from downtown and is within biking distance to many of the best locally owned restaurants, cafes, and shops that Austin has to offer. Because of its central location, Allandale is home to a diverse group of residents including young families, young professionals, and elderly residents.
There are plenty of amenities for nature lovers around Allandale. Shoal Creek is home to one of Austin's most beloved hike and bike trails and Northwest Pool, a local favorite, is just a short stroll away. Like many other Central Austin neighborhoods, there is a strong sense of community in Allandale. Residents find any excuse they can to get together. Allandale hosts many events each year including a weekly farmers market, the Violet Crown Festival, neighborhood picnics, and many more.
Although not one of the oldest, Allandale is one of the most beloved areas in Austin. The neighborhood's prime location in the heart of Central Austin, along with its park-like setting, picturesque homes, and strong sense of community, make Allandale an ideal neighborhood for any Austinite.
